General CCY coaching guidelines

Cross Country Yukon (CCY) follows the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). It
prioritizes inclusive, standardized and safe sport education to all coaches. The NCCP following
Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), you can learn more about the LTAD here:

The NCCP has educational courses for over 65 sports, you can take online modules for course
about Safe Sport Training, Asthma Management in Sports, Sport Nutrition and much more.
CCY has multiple LTAD in-person courses during the season to help coaches achieve the
certification level need for the level they are coaching.

How to become a CCY coach?

Step 1:
Create a Locker account- The locker account is NCCP’s online learning database

Step 2:
Sign up for your coaching license with Nordiq Canada- The license is mandatory; it is your
insurance coverage.

Step 3:
Take the 3 mandatory courses for your coaching license and you will find them in the e-learning
in the Locker. The 3 courses are Safe Sport Training, Understanding the Rule of Two and Making
Ethical Decisions. You will find these courses under the Multi-sport option.

Step 4:
After you have finished the steps above there is one more minimum requirement and it’s the
Intro to Community Coaching course (online) and you will also find this course under the Cross
Country Skiing option.

Step 5:
Every coach must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check. The criminal record
check is good for 3 years, after the 3 years you need to apply again for a new check. To do your
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check you go down to the RCMP and request the form, fill it
out and then send it to CCY.

*You must be in the In Training phase of the courses to be in compliance. You will be able to
see what phase you are in on your Locker profile
** Your certification has to be currently active to be covered. You will be able to see if your
certifications are current by going to your Locker profile

What certification do I need to be an Orange Squad Coach?

Leader: Complete step1-5 and take Community Coaching Course.
Helper: Complete step 1-5.

What certification do I need to be a Purple Squad Coach?

Leader: Complete step 1-5, Community Coaching Course and Learn to Train courses.
Helper: Complete step 1-5 and Community Coaching Course.

What certification do I need to be a Green Squad Coach?

Leader: Complete step 1-5, Community Coaching Course, Learn to Train and Train to Train
courses.
Helper: Complete step 1-5, Community Coaching Course and Learn to Train courses.

What certification do I need to be a Blue Squad Coach?

Leader: Complete step 1-5, Community Coaching course, Learn to Train, Train to Train and
Learn to Compete courses.

courses.
